The quick thinking and actions of Public Safety and Allied security personnel prevented theft of packages from an apartment building lobby, leading to the arrest of the alleged burglar.
After being notified of two CUIMC affiliates stuck inside an elevator, Officer Daniel McKnight responded quickly to the scene, checked all floors, and located the two passengers who were trapped. With his help, the FDNY units were able to release the passengers unharmed.
Thanks to the Public Safety team's collective bravery and skills, they were able to take control of the situation, allowing NYPD to arrest the suspect wanted for assault.
Sr. Sgt. Gil requested the assistance of the NYPD and kept the individual occupied until NYPD arrived and arrested the individual, without incident.
Public Safety Officers John Rijo and Jordon Maldonado responded to the scene and apprehended the perpetrator who was turned over to the NYPD.

Benny Ybera never thought he would end up working for Public Safety. 37 years after getting that position, he is retiring after most recently serving the lobby post in the Studebaker building.
During a brief power outage that affected many research buildings at the Medical Center, Sgt. Jose Gonzalez immediately began to account for the buildings that necessitated attention.
Since 2005, Michael Gillis has served as a Midnight Platoon Sergeant for the Morningside Campus, responsible for working the Operations Desk, on/off-campus patrol, and supervising over 40 officers on the 12 a.m. to 8 p.m. shift.
Public Safety Officers Patricia Page, Nakisha Sarjoo, and Kevin Small responded to a call for a woman who had been assaulted when leaving the train at 168th Street and Broadway. The officers provided comfort and safety to the woman while also engaging nearby NYPD officers for further support.
54 members of Public Safety were presented with certificates from their supervisors in recognition of their perfect attendance or earning a promotion over the past year.
