Columbia Public Safety has been informed by Barnard Public Safety, that an assault occurred in the lobby of 616 W. 116th St. at about 1:50 a.m. this morning. The suspect followed the victim into the hallway and accosted her. The suspect fled on foot into Riverside Park. On Tuesday, October 31, 2017, at approximately 7:20pm, the unidentified person shown below was recorded on CCTV removing a tire from a bicycle that was secured to the Bike Racks in the vicinity of 650 West 168th Street. On October 30, 2017 at 1:12pm the unknown person pictured below removed an affiliate’s cell phone from a computer terminal on the 4th floor of the North West Corner Building located at 550 W 120 St. This person was last seen boarding a NYC MTA Bus heading north from 116th street and Broadway. On October 25, 2017 at approximately 12:17 PM, the unknown person in the photos below was observed on CCTV entering Business Law (1125 Amsterdam Ave) and the Law School (435 West 116th Street) and SIPA (420 West 118th Street). Once inside each building he is observed on CCTV breaking into several vending machines and removing cash. Attempted Larceny

On October 17, 2017 at about 8:41pm the unknown person in the photos below was observed causing minor damage to a bike rack and cable lock while attempting to remove a secured bicycle in front of Furnald Hall. On September 5, 2017 at approximately 1:54 PM an affiliate had their bicycle stolen from the bike rack in front of the Mudd building (500 West 120 St). The unknown person in the photos below is seen on CCTV cutting the cable lock that secured the bicycle to the bike rack with a pair of bolt cutters. The unknown person then gets on the bike and rides off eastbound on West 120 Street toward Morningside Drive and enters the park with the bike. On May 21, 2017 at about 8:43 A.M. an affiliate had a package delivered to the lobby of 423 W. 118 St. and when she went to pick up the package it was missing. CCTV video shows the individual in the photo below enter the lobby of 423 W. 118 St. by circumventing the door lock at about 5:50 P.M. on May 21, 2017 and remove three packages from the lobby of the building. The individual exits the building and eventually enters a cab on Amsterdam Avenue which heads North. Anyone with additional information is urged to contact the undersigned. On May 12, 2017 at about 1:36 P.M. an affiliate had a package delivered to the lobby of 529 W. 111 St. and when she went to pick up the package it was missing. CCTV video shows the individual in the photos below enter the lobby of 529 W. 111 St. as someone was exiting the building at about 1:20 P.M. on May 13, 2017 and remove several packages from the lobby of the building. Robbery

On March 29, 2017 at about noon, an affiliate was the victim of a robbery on Amsterdam Ave. between W.123Street and LaSalle Street. The victim was stopped as she was driving her car and the suspect told her that there was a problem with her vehicle. After spending a few moments at the engine, he informed her that he fixed her car and that she owed him $380.00. The suspect forced the victim to drive to an ATM machine to get him money. The unknown person in the photos below is seen on CCTV cutting the cable lock that secured the bike to the bike rack. They gained entry into the building by ringing various occupant’s door bells and being granted access. The unidentified person then enters the building, removes a package and opens several others. On Wednesday, January 18th, 2017, a laptop was stolen from a P&S 3rd floor office and on Wednesday, January 25th, 2017 another laptop was stolen from a P&S 17th floor lab. On both occasions, the person shown below, Mr. Jumel Brown, was recorded on CCTV acting in a suspicious manner, then enter and exit each location. Mr. Jumel Brown is a known “Persona Non Grata” and has been arrested in the past for committing crimes on both CU campuses.

The male in the photos below “Bernard Fuller” (PNG), who is wanted by the NYPD for an Attempted Larceny from inside SIPA was observed on CCTV inside of Fayerweather and Avery Halls on 01/17/17 at approximately 10:00 AM. On January 13, 2017 at approximately 3:00 AM the two unknown individuals in the photos below removed a motorized bicycle from in front of the Hamilton Deli (1129 Amsterdam Ave). The individuals cut a cable lock with a bolt cutter and rode off north bound on Amsterdam Ave. Both Individuals also removed an Affiliates bicycle from West 117 Street and Amsterdam Ave before the theft of the motorized bike by cutting a U-Lock with the bolt cutter. Robbery

Columbia University Public Safety has received two reports of robberies that occurred recently in Morningside Park. On November 28, 2016, at about 6 P.M., a victim was accosted as she walked westbound through the park. A male, about 19-20 years of age, approached the victim, displayed a knife and demanded money. The victim stated the male was wearing a mask or scarf covering his face. The New York City Police Department has informed us that they have a similar report of another robbery that occurred on Friday, November 25, 2016, at about 6 P.M., also within Morningside park.

Columbia University provides shuttle service throughout the evening. Routes and schedules can be found on our website at publicsafety.columbia.edu. When traveling at night, remember to be aware of your surroundings, limit the use of your cellphone and enter parks only when open to the public. Burglary

On November 2, 2016 a non affiliate reported having his truck broken into at W. 117 St. and Morningside Drive and property removed. At about 2:55 P.M. CCTV shows the gray minivan in the photo below pull up behind the truck and the four people in the photos below cut the lock on the rear roll down door, enter the truck and removed property. The four persons then enter the minivan and head south on Morningside Drive. Robberies Inside Riverside Park

On August 28, 2016, the New York City Police Department alerted the public that a number of robberies have been committed inside Riverside Park. The persons responsible travel on bicycles, accosting people as they are walking through the park. While none of the robberies have occurred in the immediate vicinity of the Morningside Campus, it is important that caution is used when walking alone in the park.
■ Never enter the park after closing hours.
■ Whenever possible, travel with another person.
■ Be cautious when using mobile phones or other electronic devices.
■ Be aware of your surroundings, if you feel threatened or observe suspicious activity call the police immediately by dialing 911.

On June 2, 2016 at approximately 10:18 AM an affiliate's work van's locks were broken while it was parked in front of Case Italiana (1161 Amsterdam Ave). The unknown individual in the photos below is observed on CCTV breaking the van's passenger side door locks and then entering the van. On Friday, May 6, 2016, at about 1:40 pm., an unidentified individual was seen on CCTV removing an unsecured bicycle from in front of the Main Entrance to ICRC Audubon 3 (1130 St. Nicholas Ave). On May 4, 2016 at about 11:30 A.M. an affiliate had their bag stolen from a bench behind Low Library. CCTV shows the individual in the photos below remove the bag, head west, eventually exit the Earl Hall Gate and enter the subway at W. 116 St. and Broadway. On May 2, 2016 at approximately 3:45 PM an affiliate had his two bicycle tires stolen while the bicycle was locked to a bike rack in front of the Law School (435 West 116th Street). CCTV shows the unknown individual approach the bicycle and remove both tires and then head southbound on Amsterdam Ave toward West 113 Street on holding both tires. On April 27, 2016 at about 6:25 P.M. an affiliate's bike was stolen from the bike rack inside the Lerner Gate at W. 115 St. and Broadway. CCTV shows the individual in the photo below removed the bike from the bike rack then exit the Lerner Gate and head south on Broadway. On April 25, 2016 at about 9:40 A.M. Public Safety responded to 509 W. 112 St. regarding a suspicious person on the roof landing. CCTV shows the individual in the photo below leaving the building prior to Public Safety arriving. The individual is a known Persona Non Grata. On March 2, 2016 at 1:00pm the unknown individual below entered a space on the 1st floor of Mudd Hall and removed unattended property that did not belong to him. After removing the bag the individual exits the building on 120th street and walks west toward Broadway. The subject is seen on CCTV wandering around SIPA and Law School prior to this incident. On February 25, 2016 at approximately 12:53 PM, an affiliate had their bicycle stolen from the Lerner Hall/Carman Hall bike rack by cutting a cable lock. The individual in the photos below identified as a past "PNG" for bicycle thefts was observed entering the campus via the Carman Gate. He then exits campus again via the Carman Gate and rides off on the complainants bicycle on West 114 Street toward Amsterdam Ave. If the individual is seen on or near campus, keep him under observation and call 911 and Public Safety at 212 854-5555.

Person of Interest

On February 23, 2016 at approximately 9:00 PM the male in the photos below identified as Mr. David Owens, a Non-Affiliate was observed on the 6th floor of 18 West 108th Street partially dressed with clothing in his hands. If Mr. Owens is observed in or near any Columbia University owned building please do not approach him and call 911 and Public Safety at 212 854-5555. Mr. Owens was also observed inside of 509 West 112th Street in November 2015 and has been observed in and near other Columbia University owned buildings on multiple occasions exhibiting the same behavior.

On February 18, 2016 at about 6:50pm the unknown individual in the photo below was observed removing a bicycle belonging to an affiliate on 117th street & Amsterdam Ave. The individual fled south on Amsterdam Ave riding the bicycle. Robbery

On February 12, 2016 at about 9:45 p.m. an affiliate was the victim of a strong arm robbery in the vicinity of W. 122 St. between Broadway and Amsterdam Ave. The victim was walking into her apartment building when an individual approached her and demanded her property. The perpetrator fled north on Amsterdam Ave. following the robbery. The victim supplied the following description to the police:
Male/ Black/ Light Complexion/50yrs/ Medium Build/5'7"-5'10"/ Black and white goatee/ missing several teeth/ wearing a navy blue jacket with a hoodie and dark pants.

On February 14, 2016 at about 5:00pm the individual in the photo below was observed on CCTV video using a device to remove a bicycle from the bike rack in front of Law School. The individual fled east on 116th street then south on Morningside Drive riding the bicycle. The individual could be a known PNG responsible for bike thefts in the past. Attempted Fraud

The subjects pictured below have engaged in similar acts in the past where the check/money order was fraudulent. Attempted Grand Larceny

On Wednesday January 20th 2016, at about 6:37 pm, the unidentified suspect shown below in concert with the other shown male attempted to "snatch" a cell phone from an affiliate as she waited for a bus in front of the Russ Berrie Pavilion, in the vicinity of St. Nicholas Ave between W167 to W 168 Streets. On January 4, 2016 at approximately 12:40 PM an affiliate had his bike removed from the bike rack in front of the School of Social Work at W. 122 St. and Amsterdam Avenue. CCTV review shows the individual in the photos below cut the chain and remove the bike from the bike rack. The individual heads north on Amsterdam Avenue then heads west on W. 123 Street.
