Crime and Fire Logs
Pursuant to the federal Jeanne Clery Campus Safety Act, Columbia University Public Safety provides two separate, publicly accessible logs which are available for review by the public. These logs offer timely and clear insight into reported incidents – helping our community stay informed and aware of what is happening in and around our campuses.
Daily Crime Log
The Daily Crime Log lists all criminal allegations that were reported to Public Safety to have occurred on Columbia’s Clery Reportable Geography. These include, but are not limited to, allegations of sexual assault, relationship violence, stalking and bias or hate crimes. Incidents reported to outside agencies, like the NYPD, but not reported to Public Safety, may not be included in the log. The log is not representative of confirmed incidents; incidents do not require prior investigation or confirmation to appear on this log. Entries in the log will not be deleted regardless of investigative results.
The Daily Crime Log represents reported alleged incidents from all of our campuses, including Morningside, Manhattanville, the Medical Center, the Baker Athletics Complex, Lamont-Doherty, Nevis Laboratories and CU Paris/Reid Hall.
Fire Log
The Fire Log lists all confirmed fires that have occurred in Columbia’s on-campus student residence halls, including graduate student apartments owned or leased by Columbia University. The log includes the date the fire was reported, when it occurred, the nature of the fire, and any damage, injuries or deaths resulting from the fire.
Neither the Daily Crime Log nor the Fire Log include any specific or identifying information about the people involved in a crime or fire.

- Both logs are available for public inspection during normal business hours for incidents occurring in the most recent 90 days.

Bias Related / Hate Crime Log
Both the Clery Act and the New York State Education Law, Article 129-A, section 6433) require all universities and colleges to report statistics on Hate or Bias Crimes that have reportedly occurred on campus. All allegations of hate or bias crimes that have reportedly occurred on our campus can be found in the Daily Crime Log. Statistical data for these hate/bias crimes can be found in the Annual Security and Fire Safety Report.
Additionally, in keeping with Chapter 191 of the Laws of 2023 and the New York State Law (NYS EDN Article 129-A, section 6433), Columbia is reporting on Hate Crimes that have occurred on campus for the past three calendar years below.
- In the 2024 calendar year: 19 reported hate crimes
