Expanded campus access beginning Wednesday, July 31
Dear members of the Columbia community,
We are pleased to announce expanded access to the Morningside campus beginning Wednesday, July 31, 2024. The campus will operate under Green level status from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily, allowing entry for both CUID holders and non-CUID holders. Please note the following details:
24/7 Entry Points
The following gates are available to anyone – including non-CUID holders -- from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. each day. Between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m., entry will be available only to Columbia affiliates with a valid CUID and to pre-approved guests. Columbia affiliates can complete this registration form to provide prior authorization for guests and event attendees to come to the Morningside campus between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m.
- College Walk at 116th Street and Broadway
- College Walk at 116th Street and Amsterdam Avenue
- Wien Gate on 116th Street between Amsterdam Avenue and Morningside Drive
Additional Access Points and Hours
The following gates will be available 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily unless noted otherwise. When open, these gates are accessible to anyone, including non-CUID holders.
- Carman Gate on 114th Street near Broadway (new as of July 31)
- John Jay Gate on 114th Street near Amsterdam (new as of July 31)
- Northwest Corner exterior staircase on 120th Street (new as of July 31)
- CEPSR Gate on 120th Street between Broadway and Amsterdam (new as of July 31, Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. only)
- Lerner pedestrian gate at 115th Street and Broadway
- Earl Gate at 117th Street and Broadway (Monday to Friday only)
- Chapel Gate at 117th Street and Amsterdam Avenue (Monday to Friday only)
Campus Status Level
Referencing the previously announced color-coded campus status levels, as of July 31, we will be in campus status level Green from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Orange from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m.
The campus status level is based upon the potential disruption to our academic mission and/or campus operations. The status level will be adjusted up or down to reflect then-current circumstances, including information received from law enforcement and other sources regarding potential events that could affect Columbia. Continued adherence to university rules and policies remains fundamental to achieving our shared goal of maintaining an open campus.
