Expanded campus access and introducing campus status levels
Dear members of the Columbia community,
Beginning Thursday, July 11, campus access will be extended as follows:
Hours: Campus will be accessible to anyone – including non-CUID holders – from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. each day.
Entry points:
The Chapel Gate at 117th Street and Amsterdam Avenue will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday.
The Lerner pedestrian gate at 115th Street and Broadway will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday.
These join Earl Gate at 117th Street and Broadway, which will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, and the existing 24/7 campus entry points at 116th Street and Broadway, 116th Street and Amsterdam Avenue, and the Wien Gate on 116th Street between Amsterdam Avenue and Morningside Drive.
As we continue to expand access to campus, the following color-coded campus status levels have been developed to simplify communication regarding the current circumstances on and around campus.
As of tomorrow, July 11, we will be in campus status level Yellow from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Orange from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.

*Disability Services is available to assist with campus accessibility concerns and other accommodation needs. Email [email protected] or call 212-854-2388 for assistance.
**Essential staff may include employees who provide essential services to campus buildings, libraries, labs and residential student life (for example, Dining, Public Safety, building maintenance staff, Environmental Health and Safety, and Institute of Comparative Medicine) and researchers with approval from their relevant dean who require physical access to their laboratories for research continuity purposes.
The campus status level is based upon the potential disruption to our academic mission and/or campus operations. The status level will be adjusted up or down to reflect then-current circumstances, including information received from law enforcement and other sources regarding potential events that could affect Columbia. Continued adherence to university rules and policies remains fundamental to achieving our shared goal of maintaining an open campus.
Visit the Public Safety website to view the current campus status level and available entry points.
Thank you for your continued patience, understanding, and support.
Sincerely,
Cas Holloway
Chief Operating Officer
