Columbia University has been named one of the Safest Colleges in America 2017 by the National Council for Home Safety and Security, a national trade association that works to further industry education and public knowledge about safety and security.

Columbia was ranked #22 out of the more than 2,000 four-year colleges and universities assessed using the most recent data from the FBI’s Uniform Crime Reporting and the National Center for Education Statistics. Previously, Columbia has been named one of the safest urban schools in the United States by Reader’s Digest.

“We appreciate being recognized as one of the Safest Colleges in America,” said Vice President for Public Safety James McShane. “The safety and well-being of our students, faculty, staff and visitors is our top priority. We take pride in working with our community on a daily basis to achieve a safe and welcoming campus environment.”
