Welcome and Safety Resources

September 09, 2026

Dear members of the Columbia community,

As we begin a new academic year, I would like to wish you a warm welcome on behalf of the Department of Public Safety. Safety is a shared responsibility. Working in partnership with students, faculty, and staff, we help create an environment where everyone can fully participate in campus life.

At the start of each semester, we share important safety resources and reminders to help keep our community safe.  Please take the time to review this information.

Safety Actions You Can Take
1. Store these emergency phone numbers in your phone, just in case:

  • Morningside Campus Emergency Line: 212-854-5555
  • Manhattanville Campus Emergency Line: 212-853-3333
  • Medical Center Campus Emergency Line: 212-305-7979
  • Lamont Campus Emergency Line: 845-365-8555

In an emergency, call or text 911 and then call Public Safety.

2. Review Columbia resources for getting around safely.

3. Install the Lion Safe App to request emergency services, access shuttle schedules and maps, and share your location with a friend in real-time.

4. Join us for Public Safety’s upcoming safety awareness events

5. Make sure you’re signed up with current contact information for emergency texts

A Few Other Notes:

Every member of the Columbia community is an essential partner in public safety. If you notice something of concern, say something by contacting Public Safety. We are always available to help: 24/7/365.

Sincerely,

Brian McPherson
