National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day: April 28, 2018

Columbia University Public Safety, NYPD and DEA provide free, anonymous disposal of unused prescription medications

Columbia University Public Safety, the New York City Police Department, and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) are partnering for the DEA’s annual National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day on Saturday, April 28, a free service to all those who attend or work at Columbia, as well as members of the University’s neighboring communities.

April 18, 2018

On Saturday, April 28, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., individuals may anonymously and at no cost turn in their unused or expired prescription medication (pills or patches only) for safe disposal at the following University locations:

  • Irving Medical Center: In front of the School of Nursing, 560 West 168th Street
  • Morningside Campus: College Walk, 116th Street and Broadway

Since its inception in 2010, the DEA’s National Prescription Drug Take-Back events have resulted in the safe collection and disposal of more than 7.1 million pounds of pills. For more information about how to safely dispose of prescription drugs or about the upcoming Take Back Day event, individuals may visit the DEA Diversion website.

We encourage our neighbors to join us participating in this important initiative. Together, we can ensure the health and safety of the University and its surrounding communities.
