Message from the COO: Additional gate and building access at Morningside campus

May 22, 2024

Dear fellow members of the Columbia community,

Beginning tomorrow (May 23) at 8 a.m., the Wien Gate on 116th Street between Amsterdam Avenue and Morningside Drive will be available to access the Morningside campus, in addition to 116th Street and Amsterdam Avenue and the Earl Gate at 117th Street and Broadway. These gates will be accessible 24/7 to Columbia affiliates with a valid CUID. Affiliates will also have access to all campus buildings, consistent with normal operating hours, including but not limited to IAB, the Law School, Mudd and Lerner.

Our top priority remains the safety and well-being of our community members, while also ensuring the continuity of our academic mission. Adherence to university rules and policies is critical to realizing those goals. Columbia continues to be a magnet for protest activity and remains a target for individuals and groups that may not have the best interests of our community in mind. Further changes will be made only after carefully considering the risks that tensions and activities in the city and around the country could spill over onto our campus and threaten the safety of our community.

The Morningside campus is open to all Columbia-based affiliates from all campuses, including Morningside, Manhattanville, CUIMC, Baker Athletics Complex, Lamont, and Nevis. In addition, members of Dodge Fitness Center have access to campus. Please note thatrestrictions at the Morningside campus remain in effect for affiliates of Barnard and Teachers College. A valid Columbia University ID is required to access campus.

Thank you for your continued patience, understanding, and support.

Sincerely,

Cas Holloway
Chief Operating Officer
