Clery Crime Alerts
Under the Jeanne Clery Campus Safety Act, Columbia University is required to send Timely Warning Notifications, which Columbia calls Clery Crime Alerts. These notifications alert the campus community when Clery Act crimes are alleged to have occurred in Columbia’s Clery-Reportable Geography and when those crimes pose a continuing or significant danger to the campus community. Public Safety can also send these alerts if a crime is not a Clery crime or it didn’t occur in our Clery Reportable Geography if the crime nevertheless poses a continuing or significant danger to the campus community. Alerts are sent by email and are posted below for the current calendar year.

Burglaries
Columbia University Public Safety was recently informed of multiple burglaries that occurred in the afternoon of Monday, June 8, 2026. The first incident occurred at 1:40 PM at 520 West 122nd Street. The second incident occurred at 5:22 PM at 548 Riverside Drive.
Both incidents appeared to have been committed by the same suspect. They gained access to these locations by piggybacking into the lobby. Once inside, the individual removes packages without permission or authority.

Burglaries
Columbia University Public Safety was recently informed of mulple burglaries that occurred on the evening of April 30, 2026. The first incident occurred at 8:59 PM at 414 West 120th St. The second incident occurred at 9:30 PM at 420 West 119th St.
Both incidents appeared to have been commied by the same suspect. They entered these locations by buzzing multiple apartments until granted access.

The individual is described as male-presenting, of average height, with a slim-to-average build. At the time of observation, the individual was wearing a dark jacket over a light-colored top, paired with light blue jeans and athletic sneakers featuring light-colored soles. A dark baseball cap was worn low over the face. The individual was also carrying a crossbody or shoulder bag.
Additionally, the individual was observed pushing a small wire shopping cart containing assorted items, including a cardboard box.

Intimidation/Bias
Columbia University Public Safety was recently informed of an Intimidation/Bias-motivated incident that occurred on Friday, April 10,
2026, at approximately 11:40 AM on Broadway between West 115th and West 116th Streets.
A Columbia student reported walking northbound on Broadway when they encountered an individual walking southbound. The
subject was initially shouting antisemitic rhetoric and performing Nazi salutes directed at no one in particular. However, as the
student approached, the subject began following the student for approximately half a block while repeating the slurs and gestures.
On West 116th and Broadway, the student attempted to cross the street, but the subject verbally confronted the student. A few
seconds later, the student was able to cross the street and the subject continued to walk south on Broadway. We believe the student
was targeted due to their religious attire (yarmulke).
At this time, no NYPD report has been filed by the victim, however, Columbia University Public Safety has given the NYPD notice of
the incident.

Burglaries
Columbia University Public Safety was recently informed of multiple burglaries that occurred on the evening of April 3, 2026. The first incident occurred at 10:01 PM at 150 Claremont Ave. The second incident occurred at 10:09 PM at 520 West 122nd St.
Both incidents appeared to have been committed by the same suspect. They entered these locaons by buzzing multiple apartments until granted
access.

Arsons
Columbia University Public Safety was informed of three arson incidents that occurred at the Broadway Residence Hall on the Morningside Campus. The FDNY has recently determined these fires were intentionally set. The first incident occurred on April 2, 2026, at 2:45 AM. The second and third incidents occurred on April 3, 2026, at 2:00 AM. All three incidents occurred inside garbage cans on the fourth floor in the common bathrooms. No injuries or major damage werereported. All three incidents are currently under investigation by the FDNY and CU Public Safety.

Harassments
Columbia University Public Safety was recently informed of a string of Harassments perpetrated by the same unknown individual. The first incident occurred on Friday, March 20, 2026, at approximately 1:02 AM. Two students reported being followed by the unknown individual while walking near West 116th Street and Broadway. The individual grabbed one of the student's hands before fleeing the area.
The second incident occurred on Monday, March 23, 2026, between 2:23 PM and 2:45 PM. The same individual was observed trespassing into campus at West 116th Street and Broadway. A student reported that the individual aempted to grab their hand in passing. Then, the same individual approached another student in an aggressive manner before leaving the area.

Burglary / Package Theft
Columbia University Public Safety was recently informed that two Burglaries occurred on February 9th, 2026, at 540 West 122nd Street and at 100 Morningside Drive. A video review shows that the individual "piggybacked" into the building at 540 West 122nd Street at 11:07am. Once inside, the individual removed several packages. The same individual then rang the intercom system unl they were buzzed into 100 Morningside Drive at 1:05pm. Once inside, the individual opened several packages and removed their contents.

Columbia University Public Safety was recently informed that two Burglaries occurred on February 1, 2026 at 411 West 115th Street and at 403West 115th Street.
A video review shows that the individual pushed open an unsecured door to gain entry into 411 West 115 Street at 1:56 p.m. and again into 403West 115th Street at 1:59 p.m. Once inside the buildings, the individual opened several packages and removed their contents.

Burglary / Public Lewdness
The Department of Public Safety has been informed of a burglary and act of public lewdness that occurred on January 21, 2026, at approximately 4:20 AM, at 606 West 114th Street.
A Columbia University student reported that an unknown individual entered their second-floor apartment through an open window. Once inside, the individual exposed himself to the student. Aer being pushed away, the subject fled on foot, traveling north on Broadway. He was last seen entering the 116th Street-Columbia University subway staon at 4:27 AM.

Burglary / Package Theft
Columbia University Public Safety was informed on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at approximately 12:30 p.m. that a Burglary occurred at 542 West 112 Street on January 13, 2026 at 1:54 p.m. The same individual also committed a similar crime on the same date at 6:08 p.m. at 511 West 113 Street.
The individual is shown in the photo below. A video review shows the individual pushing open an unsecured door to gain entry at 545 West 112 Street. At 511 West 113 Street, the individual was seen buzzing random apartments before being let in. Once inside the buildings, the individual took several
packages and exited.

Sexual Assault - Fondling
The Department of Public Safety was just informed by the NYPD that on Friday, December 12, 2025, at approximately 4:35 p.m. a fondling incident occurred in front of GG Gourmet Deli located on 603 West 168 Street. The individual is described as male presenting with a dark complexion. They were wearing a bright ski-mask, dark clothing, and were on a black bicycle. The victim was standing outside of the deli when the suspect rode past them, grabbed their buttocks and fled the scene going west on West 168 Street towards Fort Washington Avenue. A police report was filed.

Columbia University Public Safety was informed of three incidents of package thefts that occurred recently. The first occurred at 536West 113th Street on December 6, 2025, at approximately 1:54 p.m. The second incident occurred at 511 West 112th Street onDecember 13, 2025, at approximately 10:00 p.m. The third incident occurred at 531 West 112th Street on December 13, 2025, atapproximately 10:04 p.m.
All incidents appear to have been committed by the same suspect.
The suspect is shown in the photo below and is posing as a DoorDash delivery worker. They entered 536 West 113th Street and 511West 112th Street by piggybacking into the buildings. The same suspect entered 531 West 112th Street by using the intercom system.

The Department of Public Safety was informed that on Friday, November 28, 2025, at approximately 1:06 a.m. a Burglary occurred at 523 West 112th Street. The same individual also committed a similar crime on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at 2:40 p.m. at the same location. The individual is male presenting, with a dark complexion and a salt and peppered colored beard. They were wearing a black hoodie, a burgundy jacket, gray jeans and white sneakers.
A video review shows the individual using minimal force to push open the lobby door to gain entry. Once inside the building, the individual opened several packages and removed the contents. The individual was last seen walking westbound on West 112th Street towards Broadway.

The same individual also committed a similar crime on Saturday, November 8th, 2025, at 1:44 p.m. at 521 West 112th Street. The individual is male presenting with a light brown complexion and a mustache. They were wearing a red hoodie, a black jacket, black jeans and dark colored sneakers.
A video review shows the individual pushing open an unsecured door to gain entry. Once inside the building, the individual opened several packages and removed the contents. The individual was last seen walking eastbound on West 112th Street towards Amsterdam Ave.

The Department of Public Safety was just informed that on Sunday, November 2, 2025, at approximately 4:30 p.m. a Burglary occurred at 414 West 120 Street. The same individual may have committed a similar crime on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at 5:18 p.m. at the same location. The individual is male presenting with a dark complexion and a beard. They were wearing a green hooded jacket, black jeans and red sneakers.
A video review shows the individual randomly pressing the intercom in an attempt to gain entry. Once inside of the building, the individual opened one package and removed the contents. The individual was last seen walking northbound on Amsterdam Ave.

Hate Crime
Columbia University Public Safety was recently informed that on Friday, November 7, 2025, at around 9:50 a.m. an Intimidation incident occurred on Broadway and West 116 Street. This incident is being investigated as a Hate Crime. A Columbia University student reported that while walking with a friend on Broadway an unknown person approached them and made derogatory comments regarding their niqab. The student asked to be left alone and attempted to walk away but the suspect followed them yelling more Islamophobic comments at the student.
The suspect is a female-presenting person with a light complexion and graying brown hair. They were wearing a jean jacket, a black skirt over a
pink flower-print skirt, black tights and pink shoes.

Columbia University Public Safety was recently informed that on Thursday, November 6, 2025, between 3:29 p.m. and 3:43 p.m. three Burglaries occurred at 540 West 122nd Street, 520 West 122nd Street, and 506 West 122nd Street.
All incidents appeared to have been committed by the same suspect, a male-presenting person, with a slim build, dark complexion, dark mustache and beard, wearing a dark green jacket with a yellow hoodie underneath, and black pants, carrying an Aldi tote bag. They entered 540West 122nd Street by ringing several apartments and then getting buzzed in by an unknown tenant. The same suspect also entered the 520 and506 buildings by the same means, removing several packages from the main lobby.

Columbia University Public Safety was recently informed that on Sunday, November 2, 2025, between 3:43 p.m. and 3:45 p.m. two Burglaries occurred at 195 Claremont Avenue and 549 Riverside Drive.
Both incidents appeared to have been committed by the same suspect, a male-presenting person, with a slim build, dark complexion, gray beard, wearing dark framed glasses, a dark jacket, a black beanie with NY in white lettering, and dark jeans, carrying a Fresh Direct NY Yankees tote bag. They entered 195 Claremont Avenue by piggybacking behind tenants entering the building. Once inside, they were able to access 549 Riverside Drive. The same suspect was involved in the incidents outlined in the Alert sent out on October 22, 2025.

Columbia University Public Safety was recently informed that on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at around 7:44 p.m. a Burglary occurred at 424 West 119 Street. In addition, another Burglary involving the same individual occurred on Monday, October 20, 2025, at 7:25 p.m. at 110 Morningside Drive.
Both incidents were committed by the same suspect, a male-presenting person, wearing glasses, with slim build, dark complexion, wearing a black hoodie, black pants, white sneakers, with a black and blue gym bag slung across his body, and a Target tote bag in hand. The suspect entered 424 West 119 Street by unknown methods. They entered 110 Morningside Drive by ringing several buttons and getting buzzed in.

Thefts - Phone Snatchings
Columbia University Public Safety was informed of four phone snatchings that may have been committed by the same individual. The fi rst incident occurred on September 27, 2025 at around 9:13 p.m. near Schapiro Hall (605 West 115 Street). The other three incidents occurred on September 29, 2025 at around 7:50p.m., 9:08 p.m., and 10:13 p.m. near West 123 Street and Amsterdam Avenue, West 110 Street and Riverside Drive and West 123 Street between Broadway and LaSalle Street, respectively.
In each incident, an unidentified individual on a bicycle snatched the victims' phones from their hands, typically approaching from behind. CCTV footage suggests that the same person may have been involved in two of the cases, and the same bicycle was used in three.

Columbia University Public Safety was informed of three burglaries that may have been committed by the same person. The first two burglaries occurred at 549Riverside Drive: one on Monday, September 22 at around 5:00 p.m. and the other on Saturday, September 27, at around 4:59 p.m. The third burglary occurred on Saturday, September 27, at around 5:00 p.m. at 195 Claremont Avenue which is adjoined to 549 Riverside Drive. On each occasion, the suspect entered the building by piggybacking behind residents.

Description of Reported Off ender: The suspect was observed on CCTV cameras, as male-presenting, with a dark complexion, and a thin build. On September 22 they wore a gray coat, a black tee-shirt with white graphics, a black, gray and white camouflage pair of pants and white sneakers. On September 27 they wore a white tee shirt, gray pants and black sneakers. No other information is available at this time.

Columbia University Public Safety was just informed of two burglaries that occurred at 530 West 112 Street at the Morningside Campus. The first burglary occurred on Friday, September 26, 2025, at around 9:55 p.m. The second occurred on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at around 3:00 p.m. Both burglaries may have been committed by the same suspect.
On September 26, the suspect entered the building due to the door not being closed correctly. On September 27, the suspect entered the building after randomly buzzing apartments until they were let in.

Columbia University Public Safety was recently informed that on Monday, September 15, 2025, at around 12:37 p.m. two Burglaries occurred at 415 and 419 West 115 Street.
Both incidents may have been committed by the same suspect, a female-presenting person, with slim build, light/medium complexion, wearing a black Ed Hardy shirt, black pants, a blue medical mask, purple Nike sneakers, and holding a Marshalls tote bag. The suspect first enters 415 West 115 Street by buzzing multiple apartments. After taking packages from the lobby, they proceed to 419 West 115 Street where they enter the building in the same manner.

Drugging-Related Incident / Aggravated Assault
Columbia University Public Safety has recently been notified of a drugging-related incident that occurred on the evening of September 6, 2025, at East Campus. According to a Columbia University student, who required medical attention, a communal drink at a party may have been spiked with fentanyl, a powerful synthetic opioid. This incident is being classified as an aggravated assault under the Jeanne Clery Campus Safety Act guidelines and has been reported to the NYPD.
At this time, no suspect information is available. The investigation is ongoing, and the NYPD has been informed of the situation.

The Department of Public Safety was informed of two burglaries that occurred this week. The first burglary occurred on Wednesday, September 10 at around 5:49 p.m.in 506 West 122 Street. The second burglary occurred on Tuesday, September 16 at around 11:30 a.m. in 150 Claremont Avenue.
Both incidents appear to have been committed by the same suspect: a bald, male-presenting person, with a slim build, a medium complexion, wearing a dark sweater, blue jeans, grey sneakers, and carrying a black backpack. In both incidents the suspect appears to have buzzed multiple random apartments until they were let into the building. The suspect then takes packages from the lobbies and exits.

Burglary
The Department of Public Safety was informed of two burglaries that occurred on Friday, September 5, 2025. The first occurred at around 11:27 a.m. at 419 West 115th Street.
The second occurred at 11:33 a.m. at 415 West 115th Street. Both incidents appeared to have been committed by the same suspect, a female-presenting person, with a medium build and light complexion. They wore a dark Yankees baseball cap, black surgical mask, light purple pants, dark t-shirt, with “Naruto” printed on the chest, and red Nike sneakers. In each incident the suspect appears to have buzzed random apartments in an attempt to be let in, but was ultimately let in by a tenant leaving the premises.

Thefts
Columbia University Public Safety has been notified of a series of three bike thefts that occurred near the Morningside and Medical Center campuses within the last month. The incidents were committed by the same suspect, a light complexioned, male-presenting person, with dark hair, usually sporting a stubble. All three incidents were reported to Public Safety and the NYPD.
The first incident occurred on August 11 at around 10:04 am in front of Earl Gate on West 117th Street and Broadway. The second incident occurred on August 27 at around 6:07 a.m. at the Black Building bike racks on West 168th Street and Fort Washington Avenue. The third incident occurred on September 3 at around 5:41 a.m. also at the Black Building bike racks on West 168th Street and Fort Washington Avenue.

Burglary
The Department of Public Safety has been informed of a burglary that occurred on September 1, 2025, at 195 Claremont Avenue and 549 Riverside Drive.
A video review shows a suspect piggybacking behind a tenant to gain access into 195 Claremont Avenue on September 1, 2025 at 1:30am. Once inside the building, the suspect proceeds to take two packages from the lobby. Afterwards, the suspect proceeds through a passageway into the lobby of 549 Riverside Drive where they take four additional packages.

Theft
Columbia University Public Safety has been notified by the NYPD of a series of headphone thefts that occurred near the Morningside and Manhattanville campuses over the weekend. The incidents involved a group of male-presenting teenagers riding Citi Bikes and wearing masks. One individual was often seen sitting on the front basket of a bike. The suspects reportedly approached pedestrians from behind—either on the street or sidewalk—and removed headphones from their heads. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported.
Two incidents were reported directly to Public Safety. One occurred on Sunday, August 31 at approximately 7:00 p.m. on Broadway between West 118thand West 119th Streets.. The second incident occurred on Monday, September 1 at approximately 7:21 p.m. on Broadway at West 131st Street.

Burglaries
The Department of Public Safety has been informed of three burglaries that occurred between August 2, 2025, at11:47pm and August 4, 2025, at 8:08pm and 8:20pm at 521 West 111 Street, 420 West 119 Street and 500 West122 Street, respectively. It is believed that these burglaries were all perpetrated by the same person.
A video review shows an individual pressing intercom buttons randomly until they are let in. This technique is used at all three buildings.

Robbery
On Sunday, June 22, 2025, at 11:24 p.m., a robbery occurred at the corner of West 122nd Street and Amsterdam Avenue, at the Morningside Campus.
The NYPD reported that a non-affiliate on an electric bike was struck by a minivan, knocking him to the ground. Two (2) unknown individuals exited the vehicle and assaulted the complainant, striking them on their face and body. The unknown individuals removed two (2) cell phones from the complainant, smashing one and stealing the other. They also attempted to take the complainant's e-bike but were unable to do so. A video review shows an individual randomly pressing the intercom in an attempt to gain entry. Once inside of the building, the individual removed one package. The individual was last seen entering the housing complex at 3170 Broadway.

They were carrying a colorful backpack with cartoon characters on it and holding a dark-patterned umbrella.

Motor Vehicle Theft
On Thursday, May 8, 2025, at around 2:38 a.m. a Motor Vehicle Theft occurred in front of the President’s House at the
Morningside Campus.
The complainant, a Columbia University faculty member, reported that they parked their motor vehicle in front of the President’s House on Morningside Drive at around 10:38pm on Wednesday, May 7th. On Thursday, May 8th at around 9:54 am the complainant checked on their motor vehicle and noticed it was missing.

On Friday, May 2, 2025, at 7:03 am, an attempted robbery occurred inside of the Chase Bank at 2824Broadway, at the Morningside Campus.
The complainant, a Columbia University employee, stated that they were withdrawing cash from the ATM vestibule when an unknown individual attempted to take the cash from them. A struggle ensued inside the bank but no money was taken from the victim.

On Monday, April 28, 2025, at approximately 6:47 p.m. a Burglary occurred at 403 W 115th Street, at the Morningside Campus.
A video review shows an individual randomly pressing the intercom in an attempt to gain entry. Once inside the building, the individual removed several items from packages, placed some into bags they were carrying, and stored others in a backpack taken from the lobby.
The individual was last seen entering the downtown side of the MTA subway station at Broadway and West 116th Street.

Motor Vehicle Theft of an E-scooter & E-bike
On Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at around 7:05 p.m. a Motor Vehicle Theft of an e-scooter occurred on the bicycle rack behind the Lenfest Center of the Arts building, at the Manhattanville Campus. At approximately 9:42 p.m. another Motor Vehicle Theft of an e-bike occurred on the bicycle racks south of the Kravis Business School, at the Manhattanville Campus.
The first complainant, a Columbia University student, reported that they parked their electric scooter outside of the Lenfest Center of the Arts at around 8:55 a.m. on Wednesday, April 23. On the same day at around 7:48 p.m. the student checked on their e-scooter and noticed it was missing. The second complainant, a Columbia University student, similarly reported that they parked their electric bike outside of the Kravis Business School at around 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 23. On the same day at around 9:42 p.m. the student checked on their E-bike and noticed it was missing.

A suspect was observed on CCTV camera conducting both thefts. The suspect is male presenting about 5’9” in height, light complexioned, and weighed about 180 pounds. They had short dark hair and were wearing an ECKO brand red and black short sleeve hoodie, red shorts and black sneakers. The suspect left the scene with the e-scooter, going west on West 130th Street and left with the e-bike going north on 12th Avenue.

On Tuesday, March 25, 2025, at approximately 9:55 a.m. a Burglary occurred at 181 Claremont Avenue, at the Morningside Campus.
A video review shows an individual randomly pressing the intercom in an attempt to gain entry. The individual waits in the vestibule until an unknown tenant enters and then “piggybacks” behind them into the building. Once inside of the building, the individual removed one package. The individual was last seen walking south on Broadway from West 125th Street.

Motor Vehicle Theft
On Friday, April 04, 2025, at around 6:57 a.m. a Motor Vehicle Theft occurred at West 116th Street & Broadway at the Morningside Campus.
The complainant, a Columbia University contractor, reported that they briefly parked their vehicle on West 116th Street & Broadway, leaving their car unlocked and the motor running. An unknown individual entered the car and drove north on Broadway.

The NYPD reported that an affiliate was struck in the back of the head by an unknown subject, and their Apple Air Pods were removed from them. The subject fled north on Claremont Ave on a scooter.

On Monday, March 3, 2025, at around 6:40 p.m., an attempted robbery and robbery occurred at Morningside Avenue and West 123rd Street, in the vicinity of the Morningside Campus.
In the first incident, a Columbia University student reported that three unknown individuals attempted to take items from them. Shortly thereafter, a second complainant, an Assistant Professor, also reported that their belt, sneakers, and other items were forcibly taken by a group of people described as the same in the first incident inside Morningside Park.
The suspects are described as male-presenting wearing all black and face masks.

Sexual Harassment
The Department of Public Safety has been informed of several Sexual Harassment incidents, committed by the same individual, targeting women near and within the Medical Center Campus. These incidents span from January 7th, 2025 to January 25, 2025.
In these incidents, the subject has been reported to have followed, approached and even engaged in unwanted touching of several women. In an incident, which occurred on January 21st at approximately 12:35 am, just off campus, the subject followed and touched the buttocks of an affiliate at 173rd Street and Fort Washington Avenue. An NYPD report was filed for this incident.

Robberies
On Thursday, January 2, 2025, at approximately 12:30 p.m., Columbia University Public Safety was notified by the NYPD of two armed robberies that took place just off-campus at Morningside Park, around the West 114th Street entrance.
The NYPD reported that on January 1, 2025, at 4:55 p.m., a non-affiliate was stopped by two armed subjects in Morningside Park and property was demanded. The two subjects fled south on Morningside Drive. The subjects are described by the NYPD as male-presenting, light skinned, 16 to 18 years old, wearing all black. No further information is available at this time.

On Thursday, December 26, 2024, at 11:54 a.m. a burglary occurred at 502 West 122nd Street, at the Morningside Campus.
The complainants, both non-affiliate contract workers, had their tool bags with tools removed from the basement storage room. A video review shows the subject entering the basement through an unsecured basement door and exiting the same way with the tools.
The suspect is the same individual who committed a similar crime on December 19, 2024, at 506 West122nd Street.
The suspect is described as male presenting with a dark complexion, a thin build, and a salt-and-pepper moustache and beard, wearing black jeans, a black jacket, a black hooded sweatshirt, and black winter gloves.

On Sunday, December 29, 2024, at around 6:41 a.m. a Burglary occurred at 500 West 122nd Street. At 6:48 a.m. a second Burglary occurred at530 West 122nd Street.
A video review shows an individual entering the vestibule of 500 W. 122nd Street and removing several packages. The same individual then enters 530 W. 122nd Street and removes more packages after being buzzed into the building.

On Monday, December 23, 2024, at around 3:39 p.m., a Robbery occurred between West 118th and West 120th Streets on Broadway, at the Morningside Campus.
The complainant, a Columbia University student, reported that an unknown individual riding a bicycle attempted to snatch their purse from them. When they were unsuccessful, the unknown individual snatched their iPhone instead. The unknown individual was accompanied by around 10other bicyclists. A second complainant, a Teachers College student, also reported that their iPhone was snatched by the same group of people.
The suspect is described as male-presenting, wearing a dark hooded puffer coat, black sweatpants, white and black sneakers, a black face mask, and riding a neon green or yellow bicycle.

Robbery / Hate Crime
The NYPD has informed the Columbia University Department of Public Safety of a Robbery / Hate Crime incident which took place on Monday, December 9, 2024, at approximately 3:30 PM on West 116th Street and Broadway.
A Columbia University student reported to the NYPD that during a demonstration an unknown individual stole their Israeli flag and ran westbound on West 116th Street. The student pursued the individual to Claremont Avenue and the unknown suspect punched the student in the face. This incident is being classified as a Hate Crime and is currently under investigation by the NYPD Hate Crimes Task Force.

Attempted Robbery
On Sunday, November 24, 2024, at around 5:02 p.m. an Attempted Robbery occurred in the vestibule of 189 Claremont Avenue at the Morningside Campus.
The NYPD reported that a non-affiliate was followed into the vestibule of 189 Claremont Avenue by an individual. The individual attempted to remove the non-affiliates property while striking them, causing injury. The subject then fled north on Claremont Avenue toward Tiemann Place.

Stalking
The Department of Public Safety has been informed of reported stalking occurring since September 2024 at both on and off campus locations. The incident was reported to Columbia University’s Department of Public Safety on Wednesday, November 20, 2024. The complainant did not wish to file a police report; however, the Department of Public Safety has made the police aware of this incident.
The complainant, a Columbia University student, reported that they were approached by a non-affiliate at various locations, including the Starbucks at 2929 Broadway and at the Carman gate, on West 114th Street and Broadway. The subject depicted in the image below attempted to interact with the complainant. The Department is also aware that the subject has approached other community members. While the reported interactions have not been violent in nature, we want to ensure our community is aware and are encouraged to report any unwanted interactions to the Department of Public Safety by calling 212-854-2797.
The subject is described as being, 5’8” – 6’ tall, with a medium build, a dark complexion, having mid to long curly black hair, and is usually wearing dark clothing and a baseball cap. They are known to frequent the Starbucks at 2929 Broadway.

On Monday, November 18, 2024, between 5:40 p.m. and 5:50 p.m., two burglaries occurred. The first burglary occurred at 424-430 West 119 Street and the second at 110 Morningside Drive.
A video review shows an individual entering 424-430 West 119 Street on November 18, 2024, at about 5:40 p.m., ringing the intercom at random to gain entry. Once inside, the individual removed several packages. Further video review shows the same individual entering 110 Morningside Drive on the same date at 5:50 p.m. in the same manner and removing several packages without permission or authority.

Further video review shows the same individual entering 511 West 112th Street on the same date at 1:50 a.m. by forcing the door open and removing several packages without permission or authority.

On Friday, November 08, 2024, at around 5:40 a.m. an Arson occurred at 549 Riverside Drive, at the Morningside Campus.
The incident was reported to Columbia University's Department of Public Safety by an Allied Universal Security Officer at around 5:45 a.m. CCTV shows an individual lighting leaves on fire. The fire grew and caused damage to two vehicles. At around 5:50 a.m. both the NYPD and the FDNY reported to the scene. The FDNY extinguished the fire. This incident may be related to a different fire that occurred at around 2:00 a.m. inside Riverside Park and across from 560 Riverside Drive.

Three burglaries were reported to have occurred on Saturday, October 26, at around 7:33 a.m. and on Tuesday October 29, at around 4:55 a.m. and 5:02 a.m. at 150 Claremont Avenue, 423 West 118 Street and 420 West 119 Street, at the Morningside Campus.
The complainants all reported packages missing from the lobbies of their respective buildings. Video review shows an individual entering these buildings by either ‘piggybacking” or by ringing random buzzers. Once inside, the individual removed several packages without permission or authority.

On Sunday, October 27, 2024, at 8:00 p.m. a Robbery occurred at the northwest comer of West 112 Street and Broadway, at the Morningside Campus.
While walking north on Broadway, at West 112 Street, the complainant, a Columbia University student, had their headphones taken off their neck from behind by an unknown person. The suspect fled south on Broadway on a scooter. The complainant gave a brief chase and the suspect displayed a weapon. A second complainant, also a Columbia University Student, reported the same suspect attempted to remove headphones from their neck at 8:06 p.m. in the area of West 110 Street and Broadway.

On Wednesday, October 23, 2024, at 7:47 p.m. a burglary occurred at 511 West 113th Street, at the Morningside Campus.
The complainant, a Columbia University student, had their package taken from the lobby of 511 West 113th Street. Video review shows an individual entering the building behind someone who used their key to open the door. Once inside the individual removed two packages without permission or authority.
The suspect is described as male presenting with a light complexion and short light hair, wearing a dark colored blazer, white shirt, and blue jeans and was carrying a green colored tote bag. We believe this suspect may be connected to past burglaries.

Burglary
On Thursday, October 24, 2024, at 7:34 a.m., a burglary occurred at 507 West 113th Street, at the Morningside Campus.
The complainants, both Columbia University Students, had their packages taken from the lobby of 507 West113th Street. A video review shows an individual entering the building on October 24, 2024, at about 7:34 a.m., by ringing the intercom to gain entry. Once buzzed in the individual removes two packages without permission or authority.
The suspect is the same individual from the Clery Crime Alert dated October 11, 2024.
The suspect is described as male presenting with a light build, short dark hair, and wearing a black and white checkered baseball hat, blue jeans, a gray sweatshirt with “POLO” across the front, white sneakers and a black backpack.

Burglaries
On Friday, October 11, 2024, between 9:02 a.m. and 9:58 p.m., two burglaries occurred at 511 West 112 Street, at the Morningside Campus.
The complainants, both Columbia University students, reported their packages missing from 511 West 112 Street. A video review shows an individual entering the building on October 11, 2024, at about 9:02 a.m. and using an unknown plastic card to bypass the door's lock. Once inside, the individual removed several packages. Further video review shows the same individual entering 511 West 112 Street the same day at 9:58 p.m., in the same manner, and removing several packages without permission or authority.

On Friday, September 13, 2024 and Monday, September 16, 2024 between 5:10 p.m. and 5:40 p.m., two burglaries occurred at 535 West 111 Street, at the Morningside Campus.
The complainants, both Columbia University students, reported their packages missing from 535 West 111 Street. Video review shows an individual entering the building on September 13 at about 5:37 p.m., after ringing tenant doorbells. Once inside, the individual removed several packages. Further video review shows the same individual entering 535 West 111 Street. on 9/16 at 5:10 p.m. in the same manner and removing packages without permission or authority.

On Friday, September 13, 2024 and Sunday, September 15, 2024, between 3:30 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. burglaries occurred at 528 Riverside Drive, at the Morningside Campus.
The complainants, both Columbia University students, reported their packages missing from 528Riverside Drive. Video review shows an individual entering the building on September 13 at about 5:03p.m., aft er ringing tenant doorbells. Once inside, the individual removes a package without permission or authority. Further video review shows the same individual entering 528 Riverside Drive on September 15 at 3:30 p.m. in the same manner and removing a package without permission or authority.

On Friday, August 23, 2024 at about 1:45 pm, a burglary occurred at 541 West 113 St. at the Morningside Campus.
An employee reported a number of packages torn open in the lobby area of the building. Video review shows an individual entering the building at about 1:43 pm by piggybacking into the lobby area. Once inside, the individual removed packages without permission or authority.

Robbery
On Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at around 1:59 p.m. a Robbery occurred at West 116 Street and Broadway, at the Morningside Campus.
The complainant, a non-affiliate, reported that while working at the newspaper stand at the corner of West 116 Street and Broadway, two unknown males punched them and stole money from them.

Robbery
On Sunday, August 18, 2024, at around 9:47 a.m. an attempted Robbery occurred at West 130th Street and Broadway, at the Manhattanville Campus.
The complainant, a non-affiliate, reported that they were walking south on Broadway at West 130th Street when two unknown persons approached from behind, displayed a firearm, and demanded their property. The complainant attempted to run but was grabbed and thrown to the ground. No property was taken. The suspects fled East on West 130th Street and into the Manhattanville Houses.

On Sunday, August 18, 2024, at around 12:47 a.m., a Fondling occurred in front of 600 West 168th Street, at the Medical Center Campus.
The complainant, a Columbia University student, reported that an unknown male, after asking for the time, walked behind the complainant and then slapped them on the buttocks. The suspect was last seen running south on Broadway from West 168th Street.

The complainant, a Columbia University student, reported that two new air conditioners were removed from the lobby without permission or authority. Video review shows the same individual entering the building on both dates by piggybacking into the lobby. Once inside, the individual removes the property.

Once inside the individual removed several packages without permission or authority to do so. The individual is also responsible for a burglary that occurred on June 2, 2024, at the same location at 10:00 p.m.

The complainant, a Columbia University staff member, reported that his package was missing. CCTV shows an individual entering the building by piggy backing their way inside. Once inside the individual removed a package without permission or authority to do so.
This individual is also responsible for a burglary that occurred on June 4, 2024, at 401 West 118 Street at 1:32 am. On June 4, 2024, at around 9:20 PM, Columbia University’s Department of Public Safety received a report of a Burglary that occurred on June 4, 2024, at 4:10 PM at 540 West 112 Street at the Morningside Campus.
A Columbia University student reported their package was missing from the lobby of the building. The suspect is a light-complexioned male wearing a red t-shirt, tan pants and white sneakers. The suspect rang the building’s intercom to gain entry and was buzzed in. Once inside he removed the package. The same subject is seen on CCTV entering 530 West 112 Street and tearing open a package. The subject was last seen walking westbound on West 112 Street, toward Broadway.

Burglary
On June 4, 2024, at around 3:30 PM, Columbia University’s Department of Public Safety received a report of a Burglary that occurred on June 2, 2024, at 10:00 PM at 195 Claremont Ave and 549 Riverside Drive at the Morningside Campus. An Alumnus had her package stolen from the lobby of her building (195 Claremont).
A package was also stolen from the lobby of 549 Riverside Drive by an unknown light-skinned male wearing burgundy sweatpants, a gray Yankee T-Shirt, and a gray baseball hat. The suspect, pictured on the alert below, was last seen walking eastbound on Tieman Place toward Broadway.
