Officers Recognized for Identifying a Trespasser and Burglary Suspect in Private University Space and Quickly Responding to Distressed Person

On 11/13/20, Officer Evans Gonzalez-Tejada was conducting a patrol of Uris Hall and observed an individual inside an eighth-floor cubicle, recognizing the individual to be a known perpetrator, and notified Morningside Operations while engaging the individual in conversation until responding units arrived. Through his meticulous patrol and taking the extra step, Officer Evans Gonzalez-Tejada identified a trespasser in private University space and de-escalated a potentially precarious situation.

On 11/23/20, Officer Emmanuel Joseph recognized an individual responsible for a burglary on campus from a previous security alert and observed the individual attempting to gain unauthorized access. Officer Joseph radioed the CUIMC Operations desk, leading to the individual's apprehension by NYPD.

Officer Jose Medina was on his meal break when he heard a call over the Public Safety radio of a female screaming on the roof of Prentis Hall. He responded to the distress call, locating the person in need and assisting her until FDNY EMS responded. Going the extra mile, Medina kept the female calm as FDNY EMS collected information.
