This year, items are going to The Riverside Language Program, which helps new immigrants and refugees, and Cathedral Community Cares, which provides a neighborhood clothing closet for people in need or who are returning to the workforce.
The items Public Safety donated had been turned in to the Lost and Found, but had long gone unclaimed.
Given the University’s space limitations as items linger, “donating the unclaimed clothing to CCS makes the most sense,” said James Fey, Director of Morningside Operations for Public Safety. “We’re happy that we can be the central repository for Lost and Found, but we’re also happy to be able to provide items for people in need.”
In recent weeks, Public Safety also donated $5,000 to Community Impact.
CCS Director Joan Griffith-Lee expressed her gratitude for Public Safety’s efforts: “We appreciate all the work Public Safety does for the University and for Columbia Community Service.”
