Morningside campus access for week of April 15

April 14, 2024

Beginning at 8 a.m. Monday, April 15, access to the Morningside campus will be limited to CUID holders only with entry at the College Walk pedestrian gates at Amsterdam and 116th, Wien Gate on 116th between Amsterdam and Morningside Drive, and Earl Hall Gate at 117th and Broadway (during its regular hours, 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.). All other campus gates will be closed, including Broadway and 116th until further notice.

This measure may be in place through Friday, April 19. This access restriction is being put in place out of an abundance of caution based on information received about activities that may impact campus this week. This cautionary step acknowledges the reality that our campus is in the City of New York, and community members outside of Columbia may come to our campus without necessarily sharing our values to maintain safety, free expression, and a sense of community. There may be New York City Police Department presence in the area for the safety of the Columbia and greater communities. The safety of every single member of this community is paramount.

If you have a pre-scheduled meeting or event with a non-affiliate beginning at 8 a.m. Monday, April 15 through Friday, April 19, that cannot be rescheduled, please email [email protected] to coordinate arrangements. CUID-only access will end as soon as conditions allow.

This measure is temporary due to the information received about activities that may impact campus this week. Please note that there may be future instances that necessitate the implementation of gate closures or access restrictions based on information received from law enforcement of potential events that may affect Columbia. We recognize these measures are an inconvenience and will make every effort to provide timely notifications if such restrictions are put in place.

On behalf of the University, thank you for your continued patience, cooperation and understanding.
